Planning…

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Knitting, as you all know, takes planning. First, you find the pattern. Possibly you stumble across it, it finds you or your best friend throws a magazine at you in Barnes & Noble while informing you that you Must. Knit. This. Either way, you have a pattern. Then you find the yarn and the right size needles. Or, you find the yarn first and wait ’til it ’speaks’ to you. Perhaps you find a lot of different kinds of yarn and wait ’til it ’speaks’ to you. Perhaps your family thinks your crazy and wants to put you away because you think wool can talk.

…which is kinda my situation. (Except, I suspect the teenager wants to put me away so she can run amok.)

I *might* have a stash issue. But that’s not what this post is about.

This post is about planning. Or…forgetting to plan.

Sometimes you need to put the same amount of planning into un-knitting that you put into knitting. Sometimes you need to clear your schedule for a minimum of an hour if you’re going to rip out a short-row heel all willy-nilly and have a pile of yarn in your lap.

…and if you forget to clear your schedule…or if you’re too pissed off at your knitting and must. rip. now. …make sure you pee before ripping ‘cuz once you have that lapful of yarn, there’s no going back. Moving it just isn’t an option. At least, not an easy one.

…don’t ask how I have this knowledge…just take my word for it, m’kay?
