…all rolled into one ;o)

ETA: *ahem* I found more…see photo below…

You know, some knitters say that sock yarn is like potato chips – you can’t have just one skein. I used to scoff at that…until I started knitting socks ;o) Now, if I go into a yarn shop that doesn’t quite impress or it does impress and I can’t find anything that I truly love – odds are that I’ll walk out with a skein or two of fingering weight or DK weight just so I don’t walk out empty handed.

This habit has led to a little bit of a collection…

(No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is 20 skeins of Lorna’s Laces up there)

Amazing what you find when you start going through bags in the corner of your Living Room…

It’s not as impressive as it once was because since I’ve started spinning I’ve been buying roving instead of sock yarn – so I can make my own sock yarn ;o) There are a few skeins of my handspun in there – can you spot them?

Lolly has posed a couple of questions to those who are participating in Socktoberfest:

  • Do you have certain patterns planned for some of the yarns? Do you buy yarn and then choose a pattern?

Well…yes and yes. Like I said, I have a tendency to purchase a skein of sock yarn if I’m in a shop and can’t find anything else, so alot of times I end up searching for a sock pattern that fits the yarn. There have been a couple of times where I’ve purchased yarn after finding a pattern, but that happens less often.

  • Does a certain sock yarn you have in your stash take
you back to a certain event? (where you were when you bought/received
it? what was going on in your life at the time!)

Yes – I have a skein of ‘JessaLu Knits’ yarn that was dyed by Mama-E which will always remind me of her; The ‘Purple Club’ LL that I bought at The Point in NYC; The skein of Cherry Tree Hill that I bought at a fiber festival in upstate NY with Abi; The skein of CTH and the skein of Anne that I bought at Flying Fingers with Bev…I can pretty much remember where I bought every skein of sock yarn so it’s kind of like a photo album, only fuzzy ;o)

So there you have it – my sock stash. Now I need to hide it again before RR decides to stop here on his way to a jobsite ;o)
