Academy Award winners

This week, our directive is 10 Favorite Academy Award Winners.  I checked with our fearless leader (this time *ahem*) and she said it was okay if I listed movies other than ‘Best Picture’ winners.  I went even further and am only listing movies that I have in my collection.  Ready?  Okay, in no particular order:

1.  Return of the King – I am a HUGE Tolkien fan and Peter Jackson did an amazing job adapting these films.  When RotK won Best Picture in 2003, it was the first fantasy film ever to do so.  Yes, I was jumping up and down in my living room when it was announced.  ;o)

2.  Casablanca – I love me some Bogart.  This was his first romantic lead and he was nominated for Best Actor but did not win – however the movie won Best Picture.

3.  Breakfast at Tiffany’s – one of my all-time favorites.  Just think, if they had omitted ‘Moon River’ from the movie like the execs wanted, they would not have won for Best Score and Best Song.  The only two awards this movie won out of the five nominations it received that year.

4.  Gone With the Wind – you can’t grow up doing Civil War Reenactments and not love GwtW.  ;o)

5.  Chicago – oh Richard Gere, you are so sexy when you sing and dance.

6.  Sense & Sensibility – won for Best Adapted Screenplay at both the Golden Globes and the Oscars.  Emma Thompson gave what is one of my favorite acceptance speeches ever at the Globes.

7.  Wizard of Oz – this movie came out the same year as Gone with the Wind, which meant that it did not win as many awards that it might have won had it not been up against such a huge movie.  Best Song and Best Score along with an award for Judy Garland for outstanding juvenile acting were all it received.

8.  My Fair Lady – has anyone guessed yet that I’m a pretty big Audrey Hepburn fan? ;o)

9.  The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe – loved the books as a child and loved the movie.  Aslan dying still makes me all misty -eyed.

10.  Who Framed Roger Rabbit – loved it when it came out, loved it more when I met Roger and we started referring to each other as Roger and Jessica Rabbit ;o)  Also, that is where we came up with the RJR for RJR Enterprises, R’s install business.  (we were going to go with ‘ToonTown’ but that was too close to that other company, and Acme Corporations was too …corporate.  ;o)  )

That’s it!  How about you guys, what are your favorite Academy Award winners?
