‘Embossed Leaves’ IS a quick knit…

What I learned this weekend:

My right arm was/is hurting because of my mouse :o(

Embossed Leaves IS a quick knit! Bev wasn’t fibbing!

Elizabetty is just as nice in person as she is on her blog – and patient, too ;o)

Never bring a teen to a dinner for grownups. I finally figured out that it’s not knitting or yard work, it’s how I hold my arm when I’m using my mouse. Great.

I started Embossed Leaves earlier today and this is how far I’ve gotten. I’m using Brooklyn Handspun in Jungle Canopy which might be a little busy for the pattern but I don’t care at this point. I’m going to knit another pair in LL ‘Sage’ anyway which I know will be absolutely perfect ;o) The Jaywalkers are in time out, btw. I need some space before I start the 2nd one. These are on circs too so (hopefully) I’m still good for the Cirque du Socks knitalong ;o)

And…we met Elizabetty tonight! She was in the area for a meeting (and to go to CountryWool) so RR, Dobby and I met her at the Chief Martindale Diner which is just off of the Taconic Parkway on Route 23. Dinner was good but the conversation was even better :o) Unfortunately, part way through the dinner Dobby decided she was bored and refused to sit in the car (which normally she likes to do – she gets the radio to herself and gets to play Solitaire/Bejeweled on my handheld). She decided that it would be fun to roll her eyes, stomp her feet and sigh dramatically at five minute intervals. Needless to say she got a lecture on rudeness and selfishness on the way home and after we got home. (Betty – she wanted me to tell you she’s sorry ;o) )

Yesterday I decided to wind up the Brooks Farm Primero I bought at Rhinebeck last year to make a Clapotis (because I can’t freaking find the one I already freaking made). I had no idea this stuff was so slippery! I had a little trouble getting the ball rolling (so to speak) but once I got into the groove I was moving right along with my ball winder. All of a sudden out of the corner of my eye (because I was catching up on the West Wing – YAY DONNA AND JOSH! FINALLY!) I see a ball of yarn go flying across the room. Almost knocked the dog over! I ran over, picked it up and proceeded to start over with the winding. Not two minutes later, whoosh! Across the room. You’d think I’d learn. *sigh* I picked it up again and proceeded again to wind. This time I went veeeerrryyy sllloooowwwlllyyy and managed to get the whole thing wound up. Thank God. I haven’t started the Clappy yet but at least I’m one step closer. Besides, it’s not like I need one right now, right?

Now for the last item on my list. During the ‘Flash Your Stash’ I noticed that some people counted their sock yarn to figure out how many ‘virtual’ pairs of socks they had if they knit up all the sock yarn they own. I didn’t want to do this because I’m easily intimidated by large numbers. However, I was talked into doing the counting. The number is staggering (to me, anyway) and to ‘cull the crop’ so to speak I’m going to have a little contest. Guess how many pairs of socks I can make – I will draw from the correct guesses and the winner gets a skein (or two) of sock yarn from my stash. Also, I will randomly choose a commenter to this post whether they guess or not and they’ll also get sock yarn. So guess…I dare ya ;o)

Up next…Jerry Bears and a curse…

Contest is closed! No one picked the ‘magic’ number however, two came very, very close….I’ll post the winners within the next few hours – watch this space! And, thanks to everyone who played :o)

There’s no crying in knitting!!!

I got an extra special package in the mail today. Mama-E was taking suggestions for sock yarn colors and I asked if she might dye some sock yarn to match my blog. And she did! I *heart* this yarn! I want to hold it, and love it, and pet it and call it…*ahem* Sorry. Got a little sidetracked there. I think this is a one time only thing but if there are any of you out there that might be interested in a skein of this not only would I be highly flattered, but she might dye more if you ask nicely. ;o) (I’m not making any promises, it’s entirely up to her.) If you want to see what made me giggle like a schoolgirl on her first date, click on the photo ;o)

Next up: I did it. I had to. I like to be able to stand unaided and I’m pretty sure that if you’re missing all your toes you’re going to need some kind of assistance.

I’m going to attempt a 44 stitch heel instead of the 38 stitch one I did prior to this AND this time I am going to be PATIENT (I swear) and wait until the instep section touches my leg – like the pattern says. Click on photo for the ‘before’ shot.

Stoopid knitting. Wait. I take that back. My knitting is an inanimate object until I pick it up therefore…I am the idiot. *sigh*

In other knitting news, I had to rip out the 1/2 inch I managed to eke out of my STR club pattern (the other night – while in a dental-pain-induced haze) because…I didn’t RTFP. grrrrr. I missed the line where it said ‘increase to 65 stitches and begin working pattern’

Excuse me, I’ll be right over there…banging my head against the wall.

P.S. Do ALL men have the innate ability to choose the exact time that you absolutely MUST pee to go into the bathroom and disappear for 20-ish minutes? Or am I just lucky to have the only one? DAMN it.
