May? Is dead to me. Or at least my socks for May are for the time being. I truly do not like them BUT I have gotten permission from my partner in crime Cookie to work on them over the course of the year to try to have them done by January 1.
This meant I was free to choose my June socks! I decided to document it this month so I can’t be accused of, um…softening the results. ;o)
Here is my ‘sock club bin’ (I don’t think I’ve shared it with you before this):
Hmmm…I guess I’ll take…this one.
Is it just me or does the bag seem to be…staring at me…ohwell. It took me a moment to work up the nerve but I managed to rip it open:
YAY! Yarn I love…pattern I can’t wait to knit! Woo!
ETA: pattern link – sorry about that!
…I cast on. Finally. Wanna see?
I’ve made it through the cuff chart and started on the leg chart. So far? Meh. Though I do like the yarn color and sheen, it’s very pretty and I’m sure the socks will be gorgeous. I just, well, meh. I’ll keep knitting them and hopefully they’ll grow on me. ;o)
In other news, we worked in the garden this weekend. Dobby helped me clean out all the waist-high weeds and RR manned our mini roto-tiller:
After about an hour of tilling, I had a blank canvas:
…and two dogs that were very happy that the loud noise had ended. ;o)
I planted my tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, bean and corn plants just in time for the freeze we’re supposed to get tonight. Yay.
I also knit on my Lady E while watching the Survivor finale last night. I’m on tier 14 and it’s looking pretty nice! No photos since I didn’t want to further freak out the future FIL – he was kind of vocal and slightly negative when I took the sock picture (my fault since I waited until he showed up for dinner to take it) and I figured a picture of the shawl would send him over the edge. Please keep in mind that this is a man who refers to the internet as “that Ebay thing” – as in, “can you go on that Ebay thing and look up my friend Monty for me?” So the idea of having a website where I talk about knitting (which he thinks is kind of boring…okay a lot boring) and having lots of people read about my knitting and where they want to see a photo of my knitting is a bit (okay a lot) foreign to him. *sigh*
Anyway, as for Survivor, I’m pretty happy with the winner. The other person was kind of a sneaky bastahd – though I think the winner was kind of sneaky too, just better at hiding it. ;o)
So what did you guys do this weekend? Anything exciting?
…schedule. (boy, the pr0n searchers are going to have a blast with that title)
I pulled my May socks before we left for Maine. Okay, I pulled like three bags and finally went with the third one out of guilt. (Cookie outed me, so I had to ‘fess up *g*) I’m still not 100% happy with this choice which is probably why they are still not on the needles…but anyway…my third bag for May contained:
Pattern: Oak Leaf by Kelly Porpiglia
Yarn: Dye Dreams Luster Sox in “Emerald” purchased at CT S&W 2008
It think it’s possible that the reason why I’m not 100% happy is that this is the second skein of this yarn I have wound up to knit. The first one had four knots in it which I brought to the attention of the dyer and she sent me a new skein right away with her apologies. This one had one knot two thirds of the way through the skein but I felt it had been too long since I purchased it to say anything. I guess I need to get over the fact that I’ll be weaving in ends halfway down the leg of one of my socks and just cast on already. (PMSing? who, me? ;op~)
In other exciting news, RR proved once again that there is a very good reason why I waited ten years for a ring. (btw, Thursday the 7th was our official 10 year anniversary. On ‘Odd Day’ no less, I think it’s pretty funny since we’re both kinda odd, heh, but ANYway…) Last Friday he asked me if I was planning on going to NH on Saturday. I told him no since it’s a bit far (even though Carole‘s not going to Cummington which means I won’t see her in like FOREVER. :o(( ) so he told me that he would try to arrange for something for us to do on Saturday night and I would need to be ready to go around 6:30 and it was a surprise. He was being all mysterious about it and I thought it was cool he was trying to surprise me with something so I didn’t ask questions (I know!) and I didn’t try to find out what it was – I didn’t Google, not even once. (I KNOW!)
So Saturday rolls around and we head out when he gets home from work. Next thing I know we’re at Shakespeare & Co. in Lenox and I’m wondering what the h? There is no. way. he’s going to sit through three hours of Shakespeare. As he’s trying to find a parking spot, he tells me that he has brought me to a read-through of the new in-the-works Broadway production of Sense & Sensibility, the musical. I am…speechless. (yeah, yeah, I know.)
Austen. Set to music. His own idea. He is willing to sit through three hours of Austen. Set to music. With singing.
So we did and he did and it wasn’t bad – it was kinda awesome to be a part of such a thing – and he earned some MAJOR points and when S&S the musical hits broadway I can say I saw it when it was still in development. How cool is that?!
p.s. Tonight is the annual Fire Dept. shindig – guess who’ll be waving her left hand around like a crazy woman? yeahthat’llbemethanks. ;o)
I’ve finished the April socks for my 2009 Personal Sock Club and I’m completely smitten with them.
The heel I chose begins the gusset increases in the middle of the bottom of the foot which I thought looked pretty cool. The only thing I didn’t like about it was it took me for-freaking-ever to do the heels. If I didn’t have such fat heels (or high insteps – whichever), I’d have done the regular short row heel like the pattern directs.
I am so totally loving these socks – I’ve worn them for three days. I should probably take them off and wash them eventually… ;o)
Yarn: Autumn House Farms Strideaway Sock Yarn in the colorway ‘Fox Grape’ purchased Rhinebeck 2007
Needles: Knitpicks 2.5mm circs
Started April 2 – Finished April 19, 2009
When I finished these on Sunday I had no plan whatsoever in place for what was going to be up next. Sure I have a ton of WIP’s but most of them are socks and I wanted to do something that wasn’t on leetle tiny needles for a change. It took me a day but I decided…
I’m on tier 3 and loving it – got the hang of backwards knitting too. ;o)
…the one with the ten signs you’re getting older:
1. I actually *want* to watch the evening news.
2. I used to go out almost every weekend and dance, drink, etc. Now? PJ’s and a movie, thankyouverymuch. (I also used to date a guy in a band which led to the going out dancing, etc. *ahem*)
3. I used to be able to drink a buttload of alcohol and not have it effect me in the slightest. Now? If I order a second cosmo when we’re out for dinner the bartender (who is also a friend) looks at me hard and says, ‘are you SURE.’
4. We always go to the same place for dinner…
5. I actually want to get up before 10am and am pretty pissed off when I sleep in.
6. My daughter is going to be 20 years old this year.
7. If I bend down to pick something up, it takes me a solid minute to straighten up again. Ohwait, that’s RR…hehe
8. I can no longer fit all my wordly goods into my vehicle to make a quick getaway. I can probably fit in most of it but I’d have to make a pretty difficult decision with regards to clothes vs. wheels. ;o)
9. My daughter? Did I mention this? Is going to be 20 this year. I checked my insurance policy and guess what? I’ve been DRIVING for 20 years. I need a drink. Wait. I can’t drink any more. *sigh*
10. I used to be able to drink caffeine at any hour of the day. Now, if I don’t drink decaf after 4pm I’m up until 3am shaking like I have the DT’s and thinking of what I can clean that’s quiet and won’t wake the house.
That’s it, it was harder to get to 10 than I thought it would be!
A quick knitting update – after ripping and reknitting three inches of the leg on the first Leyburn sock for two. days. I realized what stupid thing I was doing wrong (picking up the float with the wrong needle) and I managed to finish it on Sunday night. I am now halfway through the foot on the second sock and am pretty hopeful I might finish this pair before the end of the month. ;o) No pictures since it’s kind of boring at this point and I’d rather wait for the ‘big reveal’ ;op
