blogiversary

I’ve been staring at that title for ten minutes. Because I don’t really know what to say.

This week is my 10 year blog anniversary – 10 years since I posted this post that started it all. However, last year I only posted three times. 3. Can you say you’ve been blogging for 10 years when you only posted 3 times (and 2 were posts about your 9 year anniversary) during the past year? This is my conundrum.

I post so much on Instagram and Facebook (and Twitter gets my IG auto-posts) that posting here is an afterthought. I think about it and then I’m like…why bother? How many times do people really want to hear about my latest knitting project or cross stitch (I’m cross stitching again, by the way) or how many socks I cranked on a Sunday afternoon (since my boss finally gives me 1 day a week off). I don’t want to flood social media and make you all sick of me. So I don’t post here.

I know I should. Maybe I should post here when I finish a project and put all of the IG pics in one spot? At least then I’d have a record…oh wait, I have Ravelry for that.

Maybe I should post about my shows and getting ready for them etc. …but wait, do you guys really want to hear about how I was sewing for 14 hours a day and RR was ironing and cutting interfacing?

How much navel-gazing can one introverted, slightly shy girl do, anyway?

Sigh.

Here’s another reason I don’t update much – I began this post, my computer locked up, I had to scan it then install 25 (!) updates. I dug out my iPad keyboard, installed the WordPress app and…it wouldn’t let me log in. SO now I’m typing this on my iPad in the browser hoping nothing crashes before it saves my draft while my desktop is on update 7 of 25. I’m ready to smash something.

so ANYWAY….

Since it is an anniversary of me reserving jessaluknits.com and writing a post…I’m going to do my usual Hobbit birthday-esque don’t-give-me-a-gift-I’ll-give-you-one if you comment you have a chance to win something thing. ;o)  and if you tell your friends and they mention you in the comment, you get another chance. Tweets get 1 chance plus if you are mentioned, a second chance. Let’s keep the tweets to 3 per day though, ok? Spaced out nicely throughout the day, too, not all posted at once. ;o)

Up first! $25 towards the bag of your choice from my shop! If we get to 50 comments, I’ll add a second prize drawing! We went over the 50 mark so there will be 2 drawings for $25 towards the bag of your choice!

Currently making zipper pulls for this pile -these will be heading out to Minds Eye Yarns in Cambridge, MA today! #stitchedbyjessalu #projectbags #handmade

Comments are now closed! Thank you everyone! Winners posted  in my 2/23/2015 blog post – good luck!

Nine years ago, I jumped into the blogging world with this post. What followed has been an amazing journey of making new friends, learning new things and expanding my horizons to include a new craft-based business, better photography and being very picky about what kind of yarn and fiber I buy.

I wouldn’t have traded a second of it for anything.

What I’d like to do is celebrate the past nine years with a giveaway – leave a comment and I’ll draw a winner from them early next week for either a skein of my handspun yarn or $25 off a shop purchase. Tell your friends because if I get enough comments, I’ll make that two (or more) winners!

ETA: Okay, we’ve hit 50 comments, there will be two prizes! Winners will choose between a skein of my handspun yarn or $25 off of a shop purchase!

What’s in the photos, you ask? This is my newly-off-the-needles Brickless shawl!

I’ve wanted one for a while, I love the way it drapes! The pattern calls for worsted weight but I used DK and a slightly smaller needle

I love it.

Details can be found on my Ravelry Project Page

Don’t forget to comment to be entered into the drawing – I’ll be closing the comments on Sunday night (Feb. 23) then drawing for a winner (or winners) on Monday!

ETA: Comments are closed! I’ll be drawing a winner today and posting tomorrow – thank you all for playing! :o)

How cute is she!? ;o)

Okay, right to the point here, I did my usual spreadsheet/number generator thingy and the winners are:

Prize #1: Knitful! (thanks for tweeting!)

Prize #2: Dianne Nichols! (it pays to send people!)

Prize #3: Katie O.! (plurking!)

Prize #4: Emily! (plain old comment!)

Prize #5: Ms.Lindz! (another comment!)

Prize #6: Pennie! (a fellow plurker!)

Prize #7: zzwhitejd! (another tweet!)

Whew! There you have it! (is anyone else shocked that Margene didn’t win? or Carole? I know I sure am!) If you are a winner, please contact me via the ‘contact me’ link up there ^^ as soon as possible – hope everyone has a great weekend! I’ll be back Monday with some knitting updates!

…years. That’s how long I’ve been sharing my life with you all via this blog. When I first started writing in February 2005, I had a 15 year old daughter, a boyfriend of 6 years, worked as an office manager for an alarm company as well as from home as a bookkeeper, had juuuust started knitting and hadn’t even begun contemplating spinning – also, the bags didn’t even exist for me at that point.

Now I have a 22 year old daughter, a 1 year old granddaughter, a husband, an at-home business and lots and lots of friends I have made through this here blog – and I cherish it all. Thank you for sticking with me, through lots of blog updates and two month ‘breaks’. ;o)

To thank you properly, because I believe in celebrating blogiversaries like Hobbits celebrate birthdays, I will be giving gifts! We’ll start with one, if we make it to 100 50 comments I’ll add another and then again at every 100 50 comment mark – how will we get so many comments? Well, you’ll tell your friends, of course! For every comment that your name is mentioned, you’ll get another chance for one of the prizes!

First up, a Stitched gift certificate! You can have a bag just like one of these:

Shop Update

You can pick out any print you like in the shop – your gift certificate will cover $25 of your purchase!

Adding a second prize! Because I just can’t wait until we hit 100, I’m adding a second prize RIGHT NOW and changing it to every 50 comments! What’s the next prize, you ask? HANDSPUN!

Celebration

The colorway is ‘Celebration’ and it was part of the Spunky Eclectic fiber club many years (4? 5?) ago. It is chain plied and I’m not sure the yardage but I believe there’s enough for a nice cowl!

Adding a third prize! We’ve hit 100 comments so it’s time for prize number three!

Melissa Morgan-Oakes has offered a copy of EACH of her books! Signed and everything! One prize, THREE books! (how awesome is she?!)

Adding a fourth prize! We’ve hit 150 comments so it’s time for prize number FOUR!

stitchesnrows 030

A custom dyed braid of Stitches n Rows fiber! (sooo pretty! Photo is just an example – you’ll get to tell Sarah and Sharon what colors you love and they’ll dye it up for you!) If you are a knitter, not a spinner, they’ll let you choose to either have yarn dyed for you OR they will spin up the roving you’ve designed!

Adding a fifth prize!! We’ve reached 200 comments! Up next:

A skein of sock yarn from Jellyfish Knits AND a set of stitch markers from Knittin Pretty! If you win this prize, you will let Jellyfish Knits know your favorite color and if you would like sparkles in your yarn – AND you’ll let Knittin Pretty know what set of stitch markers you’d like to own!)

Adding a sixth prize! We’ve reached 250 comments!!

A Pattern of your choice from Luliriisi’s Ravelry Shop AND 3 (!) sets of stitch markers from Ball Creative Designs!

Adding a SEVENTH prize!! We’ve reached 300 comments! (holy crap!)

The only thing I have left to give away (I truly was not expecting 300 comments – you guys are awesome!) is ANOTHER BAG CERTIFICATE! $25 towards the SbJL bag of your choice!

******************************************************

Now, the rules:

• The contest will run until midnight tonight (Eastern Time – a girl has to get some sleep! February 21)

• You will get an entry for 1 comment that you leave on this post, 1 tweet/facebook/plurk post per hour until the contest is over

• Tell your friends! You will get an extra entry into the contest for each comment they leave and they mention who sent them

• I will add a prize for every 100 50 comments – the possibilities are endless!

Thanks for playing – and good luck!

**COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED – THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!! WINNERS WILL BE POSTED ON FRIDAY 2/24**

First, let me thank ALL of you who tweeted, posted on your Facey-Space (Facebook for those who haven’t seen the Dennis Leary ad), linked from your blogs and commented!  Thank you!  This comment ho is in heaven!  ;o)

R and I spent a couple of hours on Sunday entering in all the comments, etc. into a spreadsheet (because I don’t have a bin large enough to accomodate 490 entries AND that’s a lot of paper that would end up in the trash!), then, with R watching to be sure I didn’t fudge the numbers, I went over to Random.org and used the number generator that’s on their front page to pick:

#306 which happens to be:

Carole! (Carole wins a gift certificate to my shop!)

I hit the button again and the next winner is:

#227 which is:

Kitten with a Whiplash! (also a Gift Certificate winner!)

I clicked ‘Generate’ again which spit out:

#285 which is:

Chris! (Chris wins the Scout’s Swag Club yarn!)

I hit the button again and:

#89 which is:

Tina M! (Tina wins a pair of CSM socks!)

I hit the button one more time and:

#476 which is:

@theindigomuse! (winner of a Gift Certificate to The Loopy Ewe!)

If you’re a winner, please email me at jessalu at gmail dawt cahm to let me know your email if you won a GC, your address if  you won a skein of yarn and your address/shoe size/favorite colors if you won a pair of socks!  Thanks!

Picking the winners is my favorite and least favorite because I wish I could give out prizes to everyone.   Congrats to all the winners and thanks to everyone for playing!  You helped make my 5th Anniversary my best so far!
