…seriously?!?! This is getting ridiculous. It won’t stop raining. I’m pretty sure I have an indoor swimming pool in my basement (I don’t know because I’m afraid to actually check) and I was just stuck in a hotel with a few hundred car show people for four days of rain that was at times akin to biblical deluge. It was…interesting. ;o)
I spent most of Saturday sitting in the hotel lobby with Amelia (my Sonata, for those who are new to this here bliggity blog) freaking out the car people (since it was raining, they were all in the hotel lobby, most of them were staring at me). I answered lots of questions, which was cool, and became exhausted because I don’t do crowds well. RR was by my side for most of it and while he can answer some questions, he tends to let me answer the more technical ones (the, “are you sewing?” ones usually fall into my domain). ;o) I think Tina may be right and I need to make a sign that says, “I am making yarn, I will not knit you a sweater/sock/scarf and no, I do not know what I will knit with the yarn when I am done, but thanks for looking!” and hope that helps cut down on the stress of it all. Of course, I could just not spin in public and that would definitely cut down on the questions, hehe
Anywho, because of said rain I couldn’t get many car photos but I did get a sunset:
…on the one day it didn’t rain, Friday. And, a car belching fire:
…also taken on the one day it didn’t rain.
All the time I got to spend with the wheel this weekend added up to two skeins of handspun. They are waiting for their ‘before’ photos, after which they will get a nice hot bath and a thwacking which will make them all ready for their blog debut on Wednesday – just wait, they’re gorgeous! You’ll love ’em!
…how did that happen? 14 days since my last post? No wonder I’ve been getting ‘are you still alive?’ emails – RR’s sister even yelled at me for not updating. ;o) Time flies when you’re having fun…at least, that’s what they tell me…
What have I been doing lately? Well there was the Labor Day car show, then there was the Lake George car show and the Guptill’s cruise. I had camnesia for most of it but I might be able to scare up a couple of photos…
I’ve never looked better… ;o)
It might look kinda crappy but it’ll kick some serious ass…the truck, not me. (see my disembodied head? I was trying to hide from the people…it didn’t work. ;op)
This is the Guptill’s cruise taken from the back of our truck. There were a hella lot of cars there that night!
Let’s see…I’ve also completed a pair of socks:
These are my ‘Boomerang Socks’ that I knit while we were driving halfway across the country and back [raveled here]. Why are they on sock blockers, you ask? Because apparently riding in a car towing a camper going 70mph effects my gauge. The damned things don’t fit. *sigh* I might rip back and try to relax while I re-knit the leg, or I might decide to give them away, or I might just light them on fire. I’ll let you know what I decide.
I also made up a few more of those box bags:
Some people have shown some interest in purchasing said box bags so, in the interest of keeping everyone happy, I decided to open up…
My little corner of the interwebs will occasionally have for sale box bags (those are well stocked right now), my handspun (nothing right now but I’ll let you know when that happens) and CSM cranked socks (nothing there yet either but again, will let you know). I’ll also be offering the option of cranking socks for you out of yarn you send me or yarn you pick out and have shipped to me. If anyone is interested in anything listed that isn’t available yet feel free to use the ‘Contact Me’ link over yonder in the sidebar and we’ll work something out. ;o)
Okay that’s it for now! I’m going to go back to stressing about having a college student in the family… (when did I get old enough to have a child that is a college student? Wait. Don’t answer that…)
…this may or may not be eye candy to you but to me, this is eye candy AND a vacation. Spending three days with my wheel at a car show can be pretty relaxing. Even if you don’t like cars, at the very least, it’s time you can spend knitting or spinning (or blogging, hehe). ;o)
(taken with my Blackberry…)
I do have a couple of things to ask while I’m away – first, I’d like Bloglines to update my feed like I’ve been asking for a week and a half (seriously, EIGHT emails and no reply – and I’m not the only one having a problem and getting nowhere with them. Bloglines sucks. Google Reader is THE way to go**) and second, I’ve been hearing that my blog is loading veerrryyy slooowly. If you are having an issue please let me know so I can try to fix it! (on Monday *grin*) Thanks!
**I say Google Reader because it’s my personal favorite but there are many other RSS readers out there – if you look to your right at my list over yonder –> (under Subscribe…) you’ll see some options other than Bloglines. They are seriously the. worst. RSS reader out there. Bottom line, they have terrible customer service which is something that really annoys the heck out of me and because of that, they don’t deserve the usage they get. /rant (thanks for listening, hehe)
…happened last weekend: The Adirondack Nationals and the VT Sheep & Wool Festival. I managed to go to both. We have been going to the car
show every year for ever but only during the past two years have I been able to get a day pass for VT. (RR has been going to the show since before I was in the picture and he was even there for the infamous show of 1992 where they had to call in the National Guards or something because someone *gasp* did a burnout (being a bit
sarcastic there – one year was a riot however I don’t remember which one but yes, he was there and has the t-shirt to prove it) ANYway…I went to both and had a pretty good time – even if I didn’t drink…much. ;o)
One reason I didn’t get to do a lot of car show stuff this year was because RR didn’t get home from Denver until Friday morning so we didn’t get to Lake George until Friday afternoon. We usually arrive on Thursday afternoon so we missed almost an entire day of the festivities AND RR was exhausted from not sleeping for 24-ish hours. He was tons of fun by dinnertime, though. *ahem*
Saturday dawned muggy and rainy (ugh) but I managed to drag myself out of bed and leave by 8:30 which meant I’d arrive at the Sheepy fest around 11 – just late enough for all the good stuff to be gone. ;o) (for some reason RR didn’t get up with me and go to breakfast this year…wonder why? I’m thinking sleep deprivation and…beer. *eg*) Because it ended up being so freaking hot I ended up wandering around only a little. So hot, in fact, that my brain was baked and I completely forgot I had a camera strapped to me. I visited with Judy for a while at her booth, said hello to Merlin Tree Dave, threw some money at Amy, bought a spindle that I’d been lusting after for a while, saw Pippi and Di (and Di’s blogless friend…Marianne?? Bad with names, that’s me) for quick hello’s and headed back to LG. Pretty quick trip. Oh, you might want to see what I purchased?
From the top down we have: a wrist distaff purchased from Judy (made by her significant other) with some of Amy’s Merino/Tussah (that I though was Merino/Bamboo…that’s what I get for not reading the labels that are ON the fiber), my new Golding spindle, Amy’s Super Sport sock yarn in the colorway, “Hot Rod” to commemorate the car show weekend (the ‘Super Sport’ was a big hit with the Chevy crowd) and finally some superwash merino in the ‘Ravelry’ colorway.
When I got back to my hotel I found RR ensconced with ‘the crew’ and the nephews being smart:
After dinner we walked around a bit and then watched the fireworks:
What a freaking madhouse, eh? I couldn’t deal with it all so I went back to the room early and spun while listening to the end of Magic Study – because, of course, I had brought Amelia.
I’m going to close now since I think I’ve overloaded you all – or at least I’ve overloaded myself!
