Happy Fourth of July!

Wow I can’t believe I haven’t posted on the blog since February! I’ve been crazy busy with the shop – for which I am eternally grateful since that’s how I make my living these days – so everything other than shop updates and sewing has suffered lately. I’ll try to post a little more often than once every fourth months, though!

I hope you and yours are having a wonderful Fourth of July weekend! We did our annual fireworks show for our little town last night, here is some video of the finale:

I hope to be back soon with some pictures of Tour de Fleece spinning!

Ten on Tuesday…

…the Fourth of July edition.

After the Kabooms

This week, our directive is ’10 Favorite Things About the Fourth of July’!  So, without further ado…

1.  4″ shells.  They’re compact, easy to load in the guns and pretty when they go up.

2.  6″ shells.  Also easy to load, a bit bigger in the air and, also pretty.

3.  8″ shells.  They go higher in the sky and fill it up nicely.

Kabooms !

4.  Dragon’s Breath – did you know Creamora is an explosive?  Don’t light a match if it’s floating in the air… (the things you learn at fireworks convention…)

5.  12″ shells.  These are actually my favorite.  HUGE chrysanthemum filling the sky!

6.  Hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill!  Though, when we were doing the Bennington, VT show, we would have a KFC picnic every year.

PGI Fireworks - Wednesday Show

7.  Seeing how many car alarms we can set off.  Our record is six during the finale.  ;o)

8.  Pasta salad!  I love making mine as an antipasto with meat, cheese, some veggies and italian dressing.

9.  24″ shells.  I’ve only seen two go up but they were AMAZING.

Fireworks !

10.  Having a friend with a pyrotechnic license.  It definitely makes the Fourth (and other special days) memorable!

Okay, you have my list – what are your favorite things?

This weekend…

…was a very interesting one.  Want to hear?  (of course you do, you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t…sorry)

Saturday was the annual Franklin County Fibertwist.  It was also the day that I was supposed to get a back door and window in my house.  I decided, for the safety of everyone involved, that I needed to not be home while my FIL-to-be and his friend ripped apart my home and tromped through my gardens.   Here is the door and windows that were to be replaced:

Old Laundry Room Wall

(taken with iPhone, early in the morning…sorry so grainy)  We think, possibly, that the door and windows are, if not original, at least 100 years old.  I could be wrong, but considering how drafty they all were, odds are I’m not.  ;o)  I’m thinking they might be younger than the house because we think the laundry room was added on as a kitchen.  But we’re not sure.  You see, my house?  Is an enigma, wrapped in a puzzle.  Built in the late 1700’s as a rooming house for the chair factory down the street, it’s a mixture of rooms, chimney holes, brick chimneys and pieced together flooring that doesn’t really make much sense to us, but it’s fun to try to figure out.  ;o)

So Saturday morning, I throw the dogs at drop the dogs off to Dobby (who has her own apartment now…did I mention that?) for the day and leave for the Twist.

Yarn @ the Fibertwist

I spent the day enjoying being surrounded by yarn, hanging out with Kim and believing in my FIL-to-be and the promises of a new wall when I returned.

I got home and saw RR wandering around the driveway looking a bit shell-shocked, gazing at piles of wood under plastic.  I looked at my house and saw this:

No wall...yikes.

Not only did I not have a new wall, I didn’t have A. WALL. yay.  I also had to walk over that lovely piece of plywood that you see there leading from my old broken down step to my (EMPTY!) doorway.  Those who know me well, know that I can’t even go up to the second step on a ladder without freaking out.  Let’s just say RR has the patience of a saint – he helped me over the gaping chasm.  *ahem*

Sunday dawned rainy and cold – I sat in my sewing/stash room, petted my new skeins of yarn and tried to ignore the hammering…it took some time but on Monday night…

New Laundry Room Wall!

I not only had a door, but had a new porch, two new steps and a new window.  Now we just need to find the can of ‘my FIL-to-be-is-a-painter tan’ to paint the new siding to match.  ;o)
