Tour de Fleece 2013…

…the spinning so far. As per usual, I’m spinning my Spunky Club fiber for TdF to attempt to whittle away at the 8ish POUNDS that are now stuffed into the Bin of Shame Awesome.

I think I’ve managed to spin twice as much this year as I spun last year. Which isn’t much since last year I managed to spin 4oz. ;o)

First up, ‘David’s Gift’ on SW Corriedale:

Spun on the CPW and plied on the Matchless from a center-pull ball. I ended up with 284 yards of fingering-ish weight. I seriously love this colorway!

Second we have ‘Eye of the Peacock’ on Cotswold Sheepswool Sliver:

Also spun on the CPW and plied on the Matchless frmo a center-pull ball. This ended up being 177 yards of thick/thin 2-ply that varies in weight. This is SO pretty, it’s possibly going to be a hat someday but currently it’s just going to be pretty.

That’s it so far! I’m not sure what else I’ll be able to get done before the end of the Tour because now I’m prepping for vending at Fiber Revival on August 10!

See you soon! Spin Happy!

Spa Knit & Spin was…

…last weekend (yes it took me a week to recover lol) and also fun and exhausting all rolled up together! I had lots of fun helping Amy and hanging out with friends all weekend – but I was so busy, the camera never came out of the bag! I did manage a few photos while I was there and I think they sum up the weekend very well:

Wine, spinning and men in kilts. What more could you want? ;o)

TdF and Ravelry *lympics

yep, I participated. You probably don’t know this because I was so crazy busy I never blogged about it. /sigh

So first, Tour de Fleece – I started out with my usual plan, SPIN ALL THE SPUNKY CLUB THINGS!

I pulled out all the club fiber from the Bin of Shame Awesome:

R’s iPhone is included for scale. This, btw is what 6 pounds of fiber looks like.

Once I took a look at the pile and then looked at my sewing schedule, I realized that there was no way, so I lowered my expectations and decided to just get 4oz spun and plied over the course of the TdF. I chose my fiber:

..and forgot to take a photo of it while it was still fluff. Oops! I do have an early bobbin photo:

Superwash BFL in the colorway “ooh la la tro-pi-cal”

I ripped strips from the prepared roving so there were shorter repeats of the color sequence, here is the bobbin with all the singles done:

Done! :o) now to let it rest so I can ply #spinning #tdf

I chain-plied it to preserve the color sequence:

and it came out gorgeous, IMHO:

I cast on socks during the opening ceremony:

My #olympic #knitting maybe I'll have socks in 16 days ;)

and managed to finish them almost the minute we arrived in Indiana for Pyro convention! Here is a collage of the knitting:

Olympic Socks

I LOVE these socks! They’re so squishy! I’m so very happy that I managed to actually finish something during TDF AND the Olympics (and technically, Summer of Socks although I didn’t officially participate) this year!
