FO: Herringbone Neck Warmer

A couple of weeks ago, I was contemplating what I was going to knit now that all the wedding crazy was over.  I had a skein of handspun merino/silk from Into the Whirled that was super squishy and worsted weight so I started thinking cowl…then I looked in the mirror and was reminded of my curly girl status and what cowls DO to curls and started thinking neck warmer with buttons.

A quick search on Ravelry found me perusing the Herringbone Neck Warmer pattern – I had the yarn, the needles and the desire for a warm neck so I cast on!  A week and a half later…

Herringbone Neck Warmer

…I had a warm neck!

Project Details:

Pattern Name: Herringbone Neck Warmer

Needles: Size 10 Knitpicks Options

Yarn: Handspun – Into the Whirled merino/silk in the Suffolk colorway

Time to knit: About a week – I had other stuff going on so I couldn’t just sit and knit

Notes and Mods: This is a cool stitch pattern that keeps it from feeling like you are ‘just knitting a scarf’ – it kept me happy!  My yarn was more worsted than bulky so I went down a needle size and knit 40 stitches across instead of 30.

In other news, sorry for the radio silence this week!  I’ve been sewing my butt off getting bags ready for Amy of Spunky Eclectic to have in her booth at THE New England Fiber Festival in Springfield this weekend (Booth #500-501 if you want to find it – you should visit if you haven’t already enjoyed her fiber and yarn, it’s is teh ossum) and dealing with COBRA stuff for R since that’s all messed up now that he’s made an honest woman of me.  We will be at the fiber fest on Saturday and I’ll be wearing my Twist – maybe we’ll see you there!

Aestlight…

…is finished!

Aestlight Shawl

…and that makes me *very* happy.

Aeslight Finished

This shawl is all garter stitch – I never thought I’d actually miss purling.

Aestlight Shawl

Hopefully, we’ll have a couple more days if chilly weather so I can wear it at least once before putting it away until the Fall.

What’s up next?  Bags.  Bags, bags and more bags.  I feel like the guy on the Dunkin Donuts commercials, I keep wandering in and out of the sewing room muttering, “it’s time to make the baaaags.”

Why all the crazy sewing and muttering?  I’m vending on Saturday, here, along with a bunch of my friends who make fibery stuff (Tina has a list here).  If you are within driving distance, maybe you’ll stop by?  It’s a wonderful show, right on the Hudson with gorgeous views of the river.

If you do stop by, please say hello!  I love to meet blog readers in person – and please tell me who you are because I’m kind of an idiot when it comes to putting faces to names.  ;o)

Okay, time to make the bags!

Twist…

Last week, I finished my Olympic project, Twist.  We had a nice sunny day (and I had a new haircut) so R and I went outside with the camera for a few photos:

Twist Collar

Twist Buttons

Pattern: Twist

Yarn: Dream in Color Classy in the colorway Midnight Derby

Needles: Knitpicks Options size 6 and 7 (used magic loop for sleeves)

Time to Knit: Began project on September 1, 2009 so 6.5 months – this was my 2010 Winter Olympics project in the event WIPs Dancing.  I did not finish on time but I was close!  At least it motivated me to pick up the needles again and finish my sweater.

Notes: I chose to mostly follow directions on this project.  I went with the collar version instead of the hooded one.  I wanted the structure of seams so I knit the separate pieces – however, I knit the sleeves in the round and used the EZ method of ‘fake seams’ to help give them structure.  The buttons I found at Joann Fabrics.

Me

I think it’s safe to say this sweater makes me happy (or possibly it’s just the photographer…or both).  ;o)
