Knitting in progress!

It’s a miracle, a sign of the world ending, or maybe just my mojo finally returning.

I have knitting.

Weekend Knitting

(yes, that’s the handspun from the last post!) This past weekend, we had our first and only vacation this year.  We attended the Adirondack Nationals car show and then spent a quiet day to ourselves before packing up the camper and coming home.  During our quiet day, we had lunch at a new restaurant in Lake Luzerne that overlooks the headwaters of the Hudson River (which is rumored to be owned by Rachael Ray).  I snapped this photo while I was waiting for my Wasabi Ahi Tuna (which was SO tasty!)

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Shop goes back online tomorrow with a limited selection since I’m prepping for vending at Southern Adirondack Sheep & Wool next weekend – will I see you there?

FO: Herringbone Neck Warmer

A couple of weeks ago, I was contemplating what I was going to knit now that all the wedding crazy was over.  I had a skein of handspun merino/silk from Into the Whirled that was super squishy and worsted weight so I started thinking cowl…then I looked in the mirror and was reminded of my curly girl status and what cowls DO to curls and started thinking neck warmer with buttons.

A quick search on Ravelry found me perusing the Herringbone Neck Warmer pattern – I had the yarn, the needles and the desire for a warm neck so I cast on!  A week and a half later…

Herringbone Neck Warmer

…I had a warm neck!

Project Details:

Pattern Name: Herringbone Neck Warmer

Needles: Size 10 Knitpicks Options

Yarn: Handspun – Into the Whirled merino/silk in the Suffolk colorway

Time to knit: About a week – I had other stuff going on so I couldn’t just sit and knit

Notes and Mods: This is a cool stitch pattern that keeps it from feeling like you are ‘just knitting a scarf’ – it kept me happy!  My yarn was more worsted than bulky so I went down a needle size and knit 40 stitches across instead of 30.

In other news, sorry for the radio silence this week!  I’ve been sewing my butt off getting bags ready for Amy of Spunky Eclectic to have in her booth at THE New England Fiber Festival in Springfield this weekend (Booth #500-501 if you want to find it – you should visit if you haven’t already enjoyed her fiber and yarn, it’s is teh ossum) and dealing with COBRA stuff for R since that’s all messed up now that he’s made an honest woman of me.  We will be at the fiber fest on Saturday and I’ll be wearing my Twist – maybe we’ll see you there!

Out of the Ashes…

…of Helena:

Baby Beret...

On Thursday night, I finally had enough.  I had made it through the body and almost ran out of yarn.  I had evaluated and decided to use leftover sock yarn to do a garter stitch edge on the skirt of the sweater and managed to save enough yarn to do sleeves.  I made it through the sleeves, picked up the button band and made it through three rows before I noticed the puckering and general unhappiness.

Baby Beret

I snapped.  RR watched me throw it across the room, looked at me and said, “so…not liking the sweater?”

The man definitely has a firm grasp of the obvious.

So I ripped it.  With gusto.  Then I knit a cute little beret and am happy.  Baby’s mom is happy, baby will be happy and that’s all that matters.  ;o)

So…riddle me this: why do I keep finding myself staring at the leftover yarn cake and contemplating how well wool will burn?  It might be time for a ritual cleansing… ;o)
