It’s that time again…

…time for thousands of Olympic athletes to descend upon Vancouver and battle it out for gold.

…and time for thousands of knitters’ families to abandon all hope of clean laundry, hot meals in a timely manner and vacuumed living room floors for 16 days.  Why?  Because we. are. knitting.

I am signed up for the WIP category in the Ravelympics, I’m hoping I will finish Twist.  So far I have a sleeve and 6 inches of back to show for my efforts – want to see?  I thought you might so I took pictures.  ;o)

The back of the sleeve cap  that I finished during the Opening Ceremonies (about 4″ of knitting):

The back of the sweater so far (6″):

both pieces so far:

See?  6 inches done.  I just wish the measuring tape wasn’t so darned happy about it.  I’d like to see more inches there…:

A close up of my stitch markers because I couldn’t resist – they’re so CUTE!  Plus, they make my sweater look very patriotic, don’t they?  ;o)

So, now you have my update so far – I’m pretty confident that I’ll either come very close to finishing or will finish prior to the flame going out – barring any unforseen tax preparation emergency or project bag necessity.  I participated in the Knitting Olympics the last time the Winter games were played in 2006 and managed to finish on the last day of the Olympics (a little late, but finished) – though that time I was knitting a sweater with a hood.  I’m smarter this time around.  I’m doing a collar.

If you are interested, you can find my posts regarding the last time I played Olympic games by clicking here.  I’ll try to have another update soon!  At the very least, my blog anniversary is coming up and it’s a big one so there will be a contest this week!

Thank you! …and some knitting progress!

I thank you, RR thanks you and his car club thanks you.  All of you.  At last count we had 45 comments/entries and even more clicks through to the bank website (and I’m hoping that clicks = votes!).  You guys are awesome!!  I will tally everything today and pull a random winner for a skein of my yarn tonight – the winner will be posted tomorrow.  Good luck to you all!!

The past few weeks have been crazy busy for me.  Busy crunching numbers and busy in the sewing room (new bags are going up in the shop today!  Probably this afternoon – btw, did you know you could subscribe to an RSS feed for an Artfire or Etsy shop?) which has led me to yearn for ‘down time’ which has led me to do more spinning and, consequently, more knitting.  Instead of casting on a new project, I decided to start working through some of my WIPs.  First up?  My hands have been pretty cold lately so I decided to break out the gloves.

The last time I spoke of my Knotty Gloves was June 18th when I was at this stage of the game:

Knotty Gloves - all fixed!

For some reason, after I posted this, I put them down for almost six months (!).  I’m thinking maybe I was intimidated by fingers…ohwell, now they look like this:

Getting there!  ;o)

If you are in New Jersey…

…this weekend, stop by the NJ Fiber Festival and say howdy to my bags, k?  Here they are all ready to go…

Stitched Bags for NJ

They will be found at the Seekay/Zarzuela/as yet unnamed yarn company owned by my friend Tina’s booth.  I hope they find good homes!  ;o)  Also, since I have you here, I’m going to take a moment to announce that I’m taking a bit of a break.  The shop will be closed until the 22nd but will be reopening with new prints!  Owls!  Monkeys in Pajamas!  Can you stand it?  ;o)

Speaking of as-yet-unnamed yarn company, Tina needs some help with that. If you can, please go over there and see if you can help her figure out a good one.  There’s yarn in it for you…

There’s been some knitting going on around here, too!  I’ve been working on my Aestlight Shawl and I cast on for a sweater that I’m hoping to finish before Rhinebeck rolls around:

Twist - the beginning

That would be Twist by ChicKnits (the pattern is on my new Sony Reader – my reward for the 100+ box bags I’ve sewn over the past month.  I love it beyond reason and am very happy I went with it and not a Kindle.  Mostly because it comes in red.  hehe).  The yarn is Dream in Color Classy in the Midnight Derby colorway (it’s a bit darker than in the photo).  I’m most of the way through the swatch, er, first arm and I’m very, very happy with it so far!

Now that the big rush for festival bags is over I’m hoping I’ll be able to spend more time with Twist…I’m looking forward to my self-imposed break over the next week and a half!  ;o)
